Yankees 2007: Yanks Blown Out on Getaway Day
Yankees 2007 — Game 35
Thursday May 10, 2007 at 1:05 p.m.
(Record: 16-17)
Texas Rangers
[Pennsylvania. May 12, 2007.] Just when you thought the Yanks were finally going north of .500 — they get blown out by a team they own on getaway day. That is always a nice thing to do prior to the long flight out west. Sometimes I really wonder if this team has what it takes to compete in the American League East — and the more I look at the standings (I know it is only May), the more I start to think they do not.
Texas 100 030 370 [14 16 1]
Yankees 001 000 100 [2 7 0]
WP: B. McCarthy (3-4)
LP: C. Wang (1-3)
Home Runs: Melky Cabrera (1); Victor Diaz (1)
Three Stars
#3. Mike Myers - Of the three Yankees pitchers, he was the only one not to get shelled. In a game they lose 14-2, these are the players that stand out and pickup stars.
#2. Derek Jeter - Jeter had two more hits to bring his average up to .368. It may be early, but it looks like Jeter could be vying for the batting crown again in 2007. Too bad Cano will not be invited to that party — although, we I am really hoping he is. The Yanks need production out of that once-steady bat.
#1. Melky Cabrera - It was actually a competitive game when Melky hit his solo home run to tie the score at one. Melky was the only one to touch up Brandom McCarthy. Thanks to the rest of the Yankees, McCarthy was able to pull his ERA down under 7. Melky, for giving John Sterling something to be happy about during this day — you are first star.
