Yankees 2007: Injury Ruins Hughes’ No-Hit Bid
Yankees 2007 — Game 26
Tuesday May 1, 2007 at 8:05 p.m.
(Record: 10-14)
at Texas Rangers
[New York. May 2, 2007.] One out into the bottom of the seventh inning, Phil (Phillip) Hughes was ptiching a no-hitter and him and the Yanks had a 9-0 lead against Texas. Then, another Yankees injury. Phil went down with an obvious hamstring injury. Myers lost the no-hitter in the eighth and it was just another Yankees win and another Yankees injury.

Three Stars
#3. Jorge Posada - All Posada did was go 3 for 4, with 2 RBIs, 3 runs scored and a walk. Not bad for an “old” catcher. He is now batting .333 with 17 RBIs (which is second on the Yanks). Normally batting sixth, Mr. Posada is helping carry this Yankees’ team.
#2. Robinson Cano - Finally, an outburst by Robinson. Yankees’ fans have been waiting all year for a game like this out of our young second baseman. His 4 hits and 3 RBIs helped Hughes get his first major league win. Robinson needs to keep up this kind of production if they Yankees are going to win games with a short staff.
#1. Phil Hughes - Clearly Phil Hughes was the number one star. Even if the game was 30-1 Yankees, Hughes’ 6 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball was outstanding — especially since this was only his second career start! Unfortunately this game included a Hughes hamstring injury, but now we know what we can expect from him. He looked amazing and Yankees fans will count the days until his next start — which may not be until late June or later.
