Yankees 2007: Finally, a “Quality” Start

Monday April 9, 2007 at 7:05 p.m.
(Record: 3-3)
at Minnesota Twins
[New York. April 10, 2007.] Finally, a Yankees starting pitcher works more than five innings. After a poor showing by the entire starting staff the first time through, Pavano lasts seven innings in an impressive 8-2 victory over the Twins in the Dome.
Yankees 320 003 000 [8 11 0]
Minnesota 000 010 100 [2 6 1]
WP: C. Pavano (1-0)
LP: S. Ponson (0-1)
Home Runs: Bobby Abreu (1); Alex Rodriguez (5)
Three Stars
#3. Alex Rodriguez - Another bomb by A-Rod — his power the other way is astonishing. That gives him five homers in the first six games. Not to mention, all of the home runs have had “meaning.”
#2. Bobby Abreu - Abreu had his first post-acquisition game of 2007. Remember when he joined the team — the five-game series against the Red Sox last season — when he was on base almost every at-bat and had clutch hit after clutch hit. Bobby was 3 for 5, with a home run (his first of the year) and 4 RBIs — that earns him a second star.
#1. Carl Pavano - If you looked at the box score, this one was easy. The Yankees’ pitcher surrendered only 6 hits and 2 runs in 7 innings, and he struck out two and walked none! That Yankees’ “ace” is Carl Pavano. With that outing (especially the inning eating), he is the number one star.
